The City of Gulf Breeze shares the rich history of Pensacola Bay.  We have evidence that dates back nearly 1,000 years to the Native Americans that resided here.  Don Tristan de Luna y Arellano led the first European settlement here around 1559.

Gulf Breeze now traces it's name to the Gulf Breeze Cottages and Store.  This store opened a post office branch in 1936 where Beach Road Plaza now stands.  After the opening of a new and improved bay bridge in 1960, the Gulf Breeze community began to grow and continues to grow today.

The City of Gulf Breeze, commonly referred to as "Gulf Breeze Proper" differentiates it from other communities further east which are assigned Gulf Breeze addresses by the U.S. Postal Service but lie outside of the city limits.
